The Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) is an international, non-profit association that enables the testing and validation of smart city solutions in real-world conditions, before large-scale deployment. Smart city solutions require technical, economic and social validation prior to large-scale deployment. UTA exists to fill this critical gap by enabling real-world testing, neutral evaluation and shared learning between cities worldwide.
✅ UTA is a neutral and structured organisation that brings together cities, industry, academia and non-profit actors to support smart city experimentation. By creating a collaborative ecosystem of diverse stakeholders, UTA facilitates dialogue, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives aimed at addressing real urban challenges.
✅ It provides city-scale testbeds, a trusted matchmaking framework, and a collaborative environment to design, deploy and evaluate pilots. Through these mechanisms, innovators and public authorities can work together to test solutions in real-life urban contexts, accelerating the validation and adoption of effective technologies and services.
✅ UTA is technology-agnostic and ensures balanced representation of stakeholders, fostering transparent governance and evidence-based decision-making. This approach helps build trust between partners while ensuring that experimentation processes remain open, fair and focused on measurable urban impact.
UTA brings together cities worldwide that provide real-world testbeds for smart city experimentation.
UTA also collaborates with partner cities worldwide that contribute to smart city initiatives by supporting pilot activities and sharing local insights.
UTA’s ecosystem includes large technology companies, innovative SMEs and startups contributing solutions and expertise.
UTA collaborates with leading academic and research institutions recognized for their expertise in smart cities.
