
Dublin is Ireland’s capital (population 590 000, metropolitan area 1.5 million) and Europe’s fastest-growing technology hub, home to the European headquarters of Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and Apple. The city is governed by four local authorities and is one of 100 cities selected for the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030. The Smart Dublin initiative is managed jointly by Dublin City Council, DĂşn Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal County Council, and South Dublin County Council.

Dublin’s Smart Dublin programme (launched 2016) brings together the four Dublin local authorities to co-create and pilot smart city solutions with industry, academia, and citizens. Flagship achievements include the Sandyford Business District climate resilience pilot (developed with UTA), Dublin City Council’s open data portal, smart parking and waste management trials, and partnership with the EIT Urban Mobility network.
