NTT East

NTT East is a Japanese telecommunications company and a subsidiary of the NTT Group. Established in 1999, the company provides regional telecommunications services in eastern Japan, including fiber-optic broadband, fixed-line communications, and digital infrastructure solutions. NTT East supports connectivity and digital transformation for households, businesses, and public institutions through its telecommunications networks and ICT services.

Context and problem statement

User-generated reports tell a city what visitors noticed, but not what conditions are right now on a road, a bus route or a mountainside. And a service that only reaches people who have installed an application misses most arrivals at a transport hub.

Solution overview

The extension added two things to the Tsukuba visitor services. Sensor-collected environmental and congestion data was fed into the same information stream that carried user submissions, giving a blended real-time picture rather than one built only from what visitors reported. And digital signage at the Tsukuba Centre transport hub distributed that picture to people arriving in the city, whether or not they had installed HukuRepo.

Use Cases and Deployments

Deployed in Tsukuba, Japan in the later phases of the BigClouT trial, extending the first public trial of November 2017 in the Tsukuba Station area and around Mount Tsukuba.
