Cauayan City is the Philippines’ first Smart City. The city has pioneered smart initiatives since 2015. Key projects include the Smart Water Infrastructure and Management (SWIM) initiative. The city also built a Sustainable Development Goal roadmap for clean energy. Disaster management projects are also underway. By joining UTA, Cauayan gains access to global expertise. Furthermore, it connects with cities, innovators, and industry leaders worldwide. Together, they address shared urban challenges through knowledge exchange and best practices.

Building on iSCENE 2024 and Regional Smart City Leadership

The partnership builds on earlier momentum from iSCENE 2024. The International Smart City Exposition took place in April 2024 at Cauayan City. The theme was “Synergy Unleashed: Becoming Smart Cities Through Strategic Partnerships.” Government leaders, industry experts, and academics all attended. They explored models for liveable, sustainable urban development. The event laid the groundwork for the UTA-Cauayan collaboration. As a result, the partnership formalised at SCEWC in Barcelona.
