About

FEUGA is a non-profit foundation serving as the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) for the three public universities of Galicia (USC, UDC, and UVigo). With over 40 years of experience, it bridges academic research and the business sector, managing over 600 research groups. FEUGA excels in R&D project management, innovation consultancy, and talent training, driving socio-economic development through international cooperation and digital transformation in urban and rural ecosystems.

Presentation

Founded in 1982, FEUGA is a leading institution in Spain for the promotion of collaborative innovation. It acts as the operational arm for Galician universities (Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, and Vigo) to transform scientific knowledge into market-ready solutions. It collaborates with over 200 companies and manages a vast portfolio of European projects (Horizon Europe, Interreg, Life).

As a Co-design Partner, FEUGA facilitates the creation of consortiums for smart city projects, circular economy initiatives, and sustainable industry. With offices in Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, A Coruña, and a permanent delegation in Brussels, it aligns local research capabilities with European Union innovation policies.

FEUGA’s mission is to foster the transfer of technology and knowledge to increase the competitiveness of the Galician productive fabric. Its vision is to become a global innovation hub capable of solving complex challenges through a Multi-Actor approach, involving researchers, companies, governments, and citizens.

Solutions, Products and Services

Problems addressed

FEUGA addresses the “gap” between academic research and industrial application for municipalities and private companies:

  • Innovation Fragmentation: Connecting city needs (Smart Cities) with 600 specialized university research groups.
  • Urban Waste Management: Optimizing management models for a transition toward a circular economy (e.g., the ECOVAL project).
  • R&D Funding Gaps: Identifying and securing European funds for complex technological projects.

Solutions, Products and Services

  • iHUB (Innovation Hub): A specialized service for Intellectual Property (IPR) management and commercialization strategies for research results.
  • Innovation Management & TTO: Technological brokerage between universities and industry for Smart City projects.
  • Living Labs Support: Methodologies for testing new urban technologies in real-world conditions.

FEUGA utilizes a transdisciplinary approach and the Multi-Actor Approach (MAA). Its innovation lies in its role as an “Innovation Operating System,” orchestrating digital twins, IoT sensors, and decarbonization strategies through large-scale collaborative projects.

Exemples

  • ECOVAL SUDOE Project: Coordination of integrated urban organic waste management to transform it into high-value products.
  • Smart City Santiago: Strategic agreement with the Santiago de Compostela municipality to promote smart urban projects at a European level.
