The AmPlatea project directly addresses social isolation and loneliness through AI and urban mobility technologies. Led by UTA members Nagoya University and Keio University, AmPlatea builds social frameworks that prevent isolation. The project is supported by Japan’s JST RISTEX programme. Social Isolation and Loneliness: How AmPlatea Responds

The project’s name combines Latin roots: “Am” (expand or love) and “Platea” (place or community space). Together they signal the mission: expand opportunities for meaningful social connection. AmPlatea explores a “Preventive Model for Social Isolation and Loneliness through Service Mobility and Multi-Form Community Connections.”

Nagoya University leads the investigation of digital technologies’ role. The project aims to revitalize communities. It develops new ways to encourage spontaneous encounters and attachments. The goal is a society where everyone feels connected.

Community Compass at Expo 2025 Osaka

The AmPlatea team demonstrated “Community Compass” at the Healthcare Pavilion during Expo 2025 in Osaka. This AI-driven system integrates body composition analysis with generative AI. It delivers tailored recommendations, including food suggestions and local community guidance. More than 50 participants experienced the system over two days.

Visitors ranged from students and professionals to families. They were often surprised by the unexpected combinations of health insights and historical connections. These outputs sparked meaningful conversations about lifestyle, social belonging, and the role of digital technologies in promoting wellbeing.

What Comes Next for AmPlatea

The team plans to extend Community Compass into regional pilot projects across Japan. These pilots will work closely with local governments and community organisations. They will test how AI-driven health insights can foster stronger social networks. The project aims to develop sustainable models for healthier and more resilient communities.
